Handgun Advice
Looks like I'll be making a trip back to Texas in order to get my gun. This is my first non revolver, and it looks like Im leaning towards a Glock .40 Cal. Anyone have any suggestions on which size to get? Or any comparable brand or gun that you would recomend over the Glock? Also I can hardly stop my self from getting the flashlight/laser slide on for 250. Anyone ever see those for less? Have a good one

I really like my Taurus PT101SS in 40S&W. I might also mention it is half the price of a Glock. I also have 3 others in 40 S&W (Glock, Baretta, and Springfield). I recommend the Taurus for dependability, warranty, and price. You can even get them with an integral rail like the glocks, however, I don't recommend any accessories as they really are more of a novelty than a necessity. 0 -
That Taurus 24/7 is supposed to be an excellent gun.

just purchased a new Ruger P97 45acp with stainless slide for $336.54 out the door at Gander Mountain of all places, thats a pretty darn good price , may not be the best for CCW but sure makes a good truck or house gun [:D] 0 -

If you are stuck on getting a 40s&w the Glock 23 and the Sig P229 are both fine hand guns. My 2 cents [8D]

Second that on the Glock 23 , many rounds have been put through mine and not a single issue. 0 -
Glocks are okay, but the Springfield XD seems to have all the advantages of the Glocks, but with a more ergonomic grip and a shorter trigger reset. I think they're usually available for less money too. 0 -
There are lots of good choices on the market , 90% will be what feels good to you and price . The other 10% will be reputation , IMHO I have found this to be the way ot goes. Go to a reputable dealer and do some hands on , you will quickly be able to narrow down from 5 or 6 to 2 or 3 just by the way it feels in your hand. Do your self a favor and don't buy without handling several different MFG's . I forgot about the XD , very nice firearm , you've got some good leads so let us know what you decide. [:)] 0 -
Perhaps you haven't heard; you can't use reloads or shoot lead bullets in a Glock .40.

Can't recommend the Glock 23 enough. I have largish medium size hands and it fits them perfectly. 13+1 .40 SW should get you out of any conceivable confrontation you might ever find yourself in. If it doesn't you need a SWAT team anyway. Great fun to shoot. Reasonably light for carry but plenty solid enough so that recoil is very managable. With modern factory ammo super reliable. I don't use reloads so I don't worry about KBs, butI have a feeling that the KB problem has more to do with the loads than the gun. My first 23 was a ten year old police trade in that looked like the previous owner liked to use it for a hammer and store it on an oven when he was off duty. I have shot many rounds through it It has been the only gun I have ever owned that has never jammed, misfired or otherwise misbehaved... except for my new Glock. Thats just my own opinion and experience of course. The Springfield XD a is pretty nice gun too, and if I had small kids in the house I would prefer it because of the grip safety.I also might look at a Steyr M40 or S40 in that situation. Great Austrian guns with lots of active safeties and an internal gun lock. And you can find them selling for a song in comparison to Glocks to XD's. You should absolutely pick the one that feels best to you as others have opined. But if you are in a toss up, and kids aren't an issue, I don't think you can go wrong with a Glock. 0 -

I have a CZ in .40 S&W. CZ's are great guns. They're affordable, reliable, and accurate.
Forget the Glock. Go with a CZ.0
