Compensator / Muzzle brake

Looking to put one on my AK (Barrel is threaded)

Can I do this myself & how should I, or is this for a gunsmith?
Which is better or are they the same?

(Can you tell Im a novice)

    As long as your a MARINE we don't care if your a novice or not.
    If you get one with the correct threads it is something you can do.
    Just follow the instructions that will come with it.
    Look at Brownells.com, and the Holland Quick Discharge Brake.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    Thanks, Im new to this AK, Alot differnt than my M-16. I just fell in love with these AK's when I was in Irag.

    I think the barrel is threaded (its not smooth)I will check out the website.

    If you're NYS resident, check out the law. Threaded muzzle, folding stock and/or pistol grip. You're allowed 2 out of 3, like the AWB.

    Also, over 20 firearms is a felony.

    Here's a link to US made compliance parts. It will also show you some available options. There's normally 2 size threads
    1. on an older traditional ak "47" 14mm threads with REVERSE pitch (Backwards threading) and
    2. the 22mm threads, normally on an AK "74" and has a normal direction thread.

    They also carry different muzzle brakes for custom applications which may not be made in the USA. Here's that page.

    Also go here an read this carefully and see how it applies to YOU and Your situation, you can Google " BATF 922R" which you may have to comply with depending on the origin of your AK.
