Frequency for field stripping?

What is the recommended number of rounds (approx) before field stripping a 1911 .45? Can too much field stripping affect slide/frame fit?

    Hello IMHO you do more harm to the slide to frame fit by shooting a dirty gritty gun then the wear you may do during take down . I have some match guns with over 25,000 rounds that still test as good as ever in a ransom rest as when they were built. A gun that is TOO tight will not shoot as good as one that has min clearance but still bind free. If the locking lugs are jamed closed It hurts the group size.I clean my pistols after every match "180" rounds. I shot beside and scored his targets of the national record holder for 45 in a national match course He pulled his gun down 3 times during a 10 shoot slow fire string he had a 100 with 9 X's so he thought a clean gun was a happy gun."praise the hard-ball gun"

    Would someone mind deciphering that for me real quick? Other than that part, which I obviously don't understand, I agree with the rest of the post. My grandpa would clean his guns top to bottom, in HIS chair every week without fail regardless of whether they'd been shot or not. My cousin inhereted our grandpa's very first gun and it's honestly one of the best looking guns I've ever seen. It's also in one of the best conditions I've ever seen also despite being made in canuckland![}:)]

    Mr bean a marine shooter competeing in a match in Bristol Tenn in 1987 was shooting a slow fire target this is shot at 50 yards offhand 10 shots in 10 minutes . the highest score is a 10 with each shot the x ring is even smaller then the 10 ring and used to break ties. As stated this shooter took the pistol apart 3 times during the shooting of slow fire to clean his barrel and this score was part of setting a world record his score was 300 out of 300 with 19 X's but you could not clean a gun during time and rapid fire phase of this match . By the way ANDY MOODY "the Shooter" smoked a cigarett during slow fire also.
