mid 1800's german gun maker joseph doersch from su

any information pertaining to joseph doersch or the rifles he produced in germany in the mid 1800's---as i'm in possesion of one of his rifles which is beleaved to be a 10 mm--bolt action pin fire rifle the stock runs the entire lenth of the rifle--the bolt area and breech and barrel are intricatly ingraved with fancy scroll work and also inlaid with silver,its a dual trigger firing mech.set trigger and firing trigger,the trigger guard is also ingraved depicting a deer in the woods sence.--on the barrel just in front of the adjustable sight is inlaid the number 42 and behind it inlaid the name j.doersch suhl the rear butt plate is steel and stamped in it the number 78---the stock also is intrcatly carved in a fancy fashion.any information would be extremly helpful as to ---how rare,value ect.thank-you.

  Couldn't find any thing on Doersch. If the number "42" represents a date your rifle MIGHT? be a sporter built on Dreyse Military "Needle Gun" action. The rifles date to the early 1840's, over 600,000 were made for the Prussian Army. They were chambered for a self contained combustible cartridge, whos projectile was over .600 in diameter.
  
  I don't recall that any of the Pinfire long guns that I've seen over the years had a bolt action configuration.

  to rufe-snow,thanks for the 411 on the j.doersch rifle--i'd like to send you some photo's that way you can see it's definetly a bolt action needle fireing rifle i have never been able to find ammo but it had been sermised that ammunition for it was like a shot gun shell style bullet.e-mail me with an addy i'll send the photo's raw_iron@hotmail.com you'll be impressed with this rifle,it's a true work of art!!!!! a treasure.

  Here's a picture I got off the net of the action of a Military Needle Gun.
  
  
  
  If yours has been reworked/refurbished, or if it was a sporter to begin with it may not have much resemblance to the military version.
  
  I would contact and send pictures to this group of collectors. You would have the best opportunity to identify and value your rifle through them, in my opinion.
