Class III
Anyone have any idea what it costs to get a Class III FFL? Not interested myself but the topic came up in a discussion recently. Guesstimates were in the $3k a year range.

What is needed to get a Class III ?
What does it permit (I know full-auto) dealer or owner ?
How difficult is it and how much ? Have a C&R but want to expand.
What are the other FFL grades ?

A class III is the type of license that is needed to deal in NFA firearms. We are allowed to buy and sell NFA items without paying the $200 tax or gettting CLEO signatures. If you just want to buy a machine gun, you do not need a license, you just need to pay your $200 and register it with the NFA Branch of the ATF. If you are thinking of upgrading your C&R give it some long thought. A Dealers (01) FFL license is not nearly as easy to get as a C&R (07). You will need to have an inspection done by the ATF, you will need to get zoning approval, a business permit from your state, and a whole bunch of other stuff depending on where you live. If you are planning on getting a 01 license you will have to start a business, you can't just use it for your personal use. I hope this helped.

Ma... Machineguns legal, silencers not, Short barrel rifles yes, short shotguns no, AOW no, Large barrel destructive device Yes, explosives ect NO. Do a search on NFA legal states. 0 -

If you are planning on becoming a C3 dealer, then you will not need a CLEO signature(unless your state requires approval from CLEO to become a FFL).

That's what I thought. I live in MA so it is imperative for me to know what laws I'm breaking (or not) It is actually very easy to do what you want here as long as you 1) don't live in or near Boston or 2) Pay the fee, and there is always a fee. I got my CCW in about 2 weeks, and I own everything I've ever wanted (so far-thus Class III) I will soon be venturing down that road. Like many lefty states the people here are generally on the other side of the fence. Problem is populous areas like the city that foul things up

I'm not clear on just what you are after. If you want to own NFA weapons it's not a big deal if it's permissible in your state/city. Just go buy one from a class 111 dealer. Fill out the paperwork, have your local LEO sign-off on it, pay the $200. to your dealer and wait. It's going to be a lot longer than 2 weeks. If you are clean your dealer will contact you, hand you the paperwork (which actually has a USPS $200. stamp affixed, and give your your weapon.
If you are after a class 111 dealer license, you have a big task ahead. As moose said, you are talking about a REAL business now. Not sonething you do out of your basement.
