DOM of A5
I have not been able to date a 20 gauge A5 that I just picked up using Browning's website. Serial Number is 4Z 88648. Any info is appreciated. What all does this particular SN tell me. Thanks in advance.

This is just a WAG, but perhaps the shotgun wasn't originally sold in the U.S. It could have been brought in and sold through a "Grey Market", importer. I had a Hi-Power like that years ago, the Browning folks denied knowledge of it and it's importation/sale in the U.S.
Another possibilty is that a G.I. bought it overseas, at a Rod and Gun Club and brought it back as personal property.

"4" = 1964
"Z" = Lightweight
88648 = The 88,648th 20 Ga. A5 made that year. I suspect that it was made very late in the year 1964.

Thanks, Bert and Hedge. This is what I thought, but was not sure. I knew the number was the production number, but Browning's website doesn't say anything about "Z", so that was giving myself doubt about 4 being 1964.
