I have a friend who has a weapon that he knows little about. on the barrel is is marked M
"M49 7.92"
I was told its a FN M49 cal 7.92 "8MM"
is this true

if not what is it

This is what a FN 49 rifle looks like. Chances are if it's in 7.92mm it's a ex Egyptian Army rifle that has a butt plate made out of brass and a short 10 round magazine. The one in the picture has a extended 20 round magazine that was added sometime after it left the FN factory.

rufe-snow, that looks like. About how much are they worth at todays prices. Did these come in select fire or just semi-auto.

A Sniper version was made in small numbers. To get your hands on a factory original Sniper would take a lot of money. Although Various mounts, scopes and accessories have been sold individually over the years, enabling folks to assemble non-factory original snipers.
