Value of Python?

What would be the approximate value of NIB blued 3" Python? Can tell by print of paperwork it is an old gun. Guy said he thinks he bought it in late 50's. I have two books and they vary significantly. Haven't found any 3" sales on GB to compare. Thanks in advance.

  3" Pythons are very scarce. I recently bought 2 Nickel Pythons, a 2 1/2" and a 4" at auction and paid a hefty price for them.
  
  There was also a 3" sold at that auction and if memory serves me it went for well over a grand.

  This has been mentioned a few times:
  
  Make sure you get the serial number and contact Colt to make certain it is a genuine production three inch model.
  
  There were a bunch of three inch barrels bought up from Colt and a lot of Python revolver frames were re-fitted with these left-overs.
  
  Colt did not make a three inch Python in the late 50's. This might be a 2-1/2 inch you are looking at. I think the three inch production year was 1983, but anyone with more accurate information can correct me.
