ruger single six
I set up with my buddy at a gun show today. I had an old model single six 4 5/8 barrel. I sold it for 300.00 w/box. The guy buying it said it was a white label box and worth good money. Is this true? I made a few bucks on it and will move on regardless. Just curious. Thanks for the help.

Can anyone point me to a company that makes a decent cheaper red dot scope for my ruger with a 9.5 inch barrel? Also does anyone make a holster for one that accomodates for a scope?

I once bought a 9mm Cyl. for a Ruger Blackhawk .357 that was a drop in fit and worked perfectly. I don't know whether I was lucky or if that is how they normally fit. You might want to consult a Ruger expert about bore diameter. It seems to me there was a very slight difference in the Ruger convertible bores and the bores on the Single Sixes made up for .22 LR only. 0 -
I bought a single six for my wife a few years ago. She wanted the "Wyatt Earp" look and I didn't want to clean a black powder gun. Also she doesn't like the recoil or report of larger guns. Anyway, that gun came with two cylinders a .22 LR and a .22 Magnum. The cylinder on hers simply drops in after removing the (yoke?) pin. I can say that it doesn't shave lead. I don't know if the timing is top dead center, but it seems to work just fine. Hope this helps.

tobyfloyd61: a lot of times a used cylinder for the rugers will fit right in , I have purchased used one for my guns and have also sold a couple of cylinders and there has only been one that would not fit, but you are taking the chance that they do not fit, if you buy one and it don't fit , just sell it to some one else , cause it may fit just find in their gun ,,, you should be able to find used ones in the 25- 40 dollar range
if your single six is a NEW MODEL then the 22mag cylinder for it will be stamped 22mag on the outside of the cylinder , if its for a OLD MODEL then it is NOT marked0 -
I believe I would call Ruger and see what they would charge to supply and fit a cylinder to my revolver before I started chasing down a cylinder that might or might not fit. They are usually very reasonable on their work. 0 -
When I bought my Ruger single action six shooter, it came with two cylinders, one for .22 LR and the other for .22 Mag. The suggestion to just call Ruger is the best. Their help line is great.

I had a Ruger .22/.22mag.
The cylinders are matched to the frame and both have the serial number etched on them.
Ruger said if the numbers on the cylinder are not the same DO NOT shoot it.
It would cost more than a new 22 convertable to have a cylinder matched and timed to your frame
However it is your gun and your body so do as you wish.

The safest course of action is to send the gun to Ruger and if you contact them they will insist that this is necessary. As acdodd noted, it would be less expensive to purchase a different gun that already has both cylinders.
If you pick one up second hand you should test fire it using a vise and string, just to be 100% sure that the timing is correct.
In matters of firearms one can seldom err on the side of caution.

Ruger will fit a 22mag. cylinder to your gun. $55 for the cylinder and $22 labor, (last I had it done), and the cost of shipping both ways.

You could get lucky and it will drop in. Any gunsmith can check it for timing and fit.0 -
I must have got real lucky then. I have 2 pre 72 single sixes that I buoght cylinders for and they both worked. Kinda scarry to think that if they would not have lined up a 22 mag. could of went off in my hand. Has anyone heard of it happening? I will ask this on a new topic. 0 -

i guess i have been lucky , i have a used 45acp cylinder that will fit either my blackhawk or my vaquero , I have a old model single six that came with just the mag cylinder and got a used 22lr that fits fine , i had a new model 22lr cyl. that i sold and it fit great for the guy that got it, but hey its your money .. you do what you think best0 -
I've been told that there is a bore difference between the guns that came with the .22mag cyl and the ones that didn't. Search the archives here, there was alot of good info on this topic. My Super Single Six came with the .22 mag cyl and both have the same serial # as the pistol. As to a drop in fit, it's hit and miss as far as timing. Not on a Ruger, but I've seen the top strap blown off a Colt single action that wasn't timed. I have a 1917 Colt New Service .45 that wasn't timed and I got lucky with just the forcing cone getting "peened" out to the left side when I noticed it. Brings new meaning to "Timing is everything" !
