SHOPPING FOR A 22 HORNET
ANY OPINIONS ON THE BEST PRODUCTION HORNET IN THE RUGER/CZ PRICE RANGE?

I love my Ruger 77 in .257 Roberts, but if I were gonna buy a .22 hornet(which I've been considering)I think i'd go for the Ruger#1 0 -
IMHO go with the cz or a used winchester model 43.some of the single shots handie rifle etc 0 -
I have the Ruger 77 all weather, in .22 hornet.. great gun.. or you might want to try the Thompson contender with the 14 inch .22 hornet barrel.. also a great shooter

If you are going with the new gun approach I would get the CZ...shot several this year and they are really sweet with an astounding trigger. I personally don't like Rugers triggers that much, but if you invest in an aftermarket number, I feel you will get excellent results. I've only fired one, but you may want to look at the new Savage 40 in 22 Hornet. Excellent trigger and barrel and even with the $50 scope the guy had on it, it shot sub 1 minute groups (O.K., around "7/8 ths, but that still counts, right?!?!)and it had only fired 50 rounds at that point. Pretty hard to argue that result.
If you want to go the used route, I like the Savage 340's and 342's as well as the 19H's. They can be had in the $250 to$400 range in really nice shape. The aforementioned Winchester 43 is a real beauty, but they are runing around 7 bills if I remember correctly. There are a lot of Winchester 1885 single shots that were rebarreled to the Hornet (Sorry Bert, I think I just heard your heart break all the way over here in the Peoples Republic of Illinois), and have an outstanding reputation for accuracy and are truely beautiful rifles. Sadly, you will be looking at well over a grand for a nice one of these though. Have fun and enjoy the "mouse" round!

I've got a Winchester 43 in .22 hornet. I've fired thousands of rounds through it. Tryed countless different loads. It's NEVER shot better than 1-1/4" groups @100yards. It's a sweet little rifle, just not a tack driver. Dave 0 -
I have several Hornets. The Ruger 77/22H blue steel is a good one(The stainless takes longer to break in the barrel than blue model). The Ruger #1 is a beautiful rifle but took a little tinkering to get the accuracy where I wanted it. Most accurate of my Hornets is an old Model 43 Winchester. Supposed to have a .223 barrel but handles .224 bullets with no sign of pressure. Old reliable is an old 219 Savage break open singleshot that has taken about 200 foxes and a truckload of prairie dogs.
I bought the 77/22H and #1 new and use them for p-dog rifles. Lot of ammo gone down the barrels. The 77/22H is a good choice that does not require much tuning.

It does not break my heart... heck, I own two original Model 1885s that were rechambered for the 22 Hornet cartidge. R.F. Sedgley converted a bunch of Model 1885 Winder Muskets to that sweet little cartridge. About 18 years ago, I had one of mine chambered reamed for the 22 K-Hornet cartridge, and I absolutely love to shoot that particular rifle[^]

A couple years back I bought a NEF Handi-rifle in .22 Hornet and it has proved to be quite a shooter. Not as fancy as the Rugers or CZ's, but for $212 it's hard to beat.
It's easy to spot liberals-they are the ones who have no assets to protect and need every handout they can get. They have forbeyed themselves ascendence to a productive lifestyle.0 -
second that NEF .22 Hornet....nothing fancy at all...get you a good scope and this little rifle can drive tacks...my experience anyway... 0
