    I may have to lower my standards a little and buy used then. What years are we talking here? When did they stop exactly? A side question(s):Who all makes ammo? Someone already said they're exspensive, but are they hard to find too? Also, I haven't even shot a .357. Are one of these gonna break my face(bending elbows)?

    I just checked back with the S&W site, there is a page for both the 610 and the 10mm cartridge, but they are blank. I sent of a strongly worded letter to them in regards to the matter. The is a new thing the 610 had a page less than a month ao when I was showing it to a friend. The are still new 610 3 7/8" guns in the supply chain. It really pisses me off. They dropped the 6.5" gun so that the IDPA shooters could use them with their new rules, but the IDPA shooter are like the FBI, they just can't handle the 10mm. Many companies still offer 10mm ammo, just don't expect to see it in Wal-mart, and don't expect to see it for less than $15.00 a box.

    So that's like $0.50 *per round*, or roughly double the cost of .45 ACP. On the other hand, note the performance, you get 650 foot-pounds of energy out of these bad boys, which is actually close to double the power of a .45ACP!

    Can you handle it? I don't know. . .that depends on you, but make no mistake about it. . .its a cannon for sure.

    As I said, the EAA witness guns are cheap. If I wanted to go 10mm, I'd definitely check them out:

    Kimber had their run with the Stainless Target II in 10mm, which I own one of. They're making a run of their Eclipse model in 10mm too now, or soon (I forget).

    Current companies making 10mm handguns:

    Kimber Stainless Target II and Eclipse

    Dan Wesson (just bought out by CZ, but they have, or had, at least 4 models currently being sold new)

    E.A.A. (Tangfolio). They have a full-size and compact in metal frame and also have a full-size and compact in a polymer frame. They also make a Hunter model which is all-metal, and available in blue or camo and is the most accurate of their line.

    Glock 20 (full-size) and 29 (compact)

    There are also carbine conversion units for the AR-15 platform...


    As for the ammo, I'm not at home so I don't have my list, but there are over a dozen makers. Most people I know either load their own or shoot Georgia Arms ammo for practice and shoot DoubleTapAmmo for their hunting and defense loads. You will be very hard pressed to find a more potent 10mm load (that stays within SAAMI specs). It is very low flash and clean burning (little smoke or residue).     No, the ammo isn't cheap, but then again most performance ammo isn't. Just compare the .223 with the .220 Swift or the .308 with the .300 mag, etc...

    There are, of course "other" sources for "discerning" shooters to avail themselves of these nice 10mm rocket propellers.

    Here are a couple that are currently "custom" manufactured. One is a high capacity "Officers Model" Compensated (barrel/s) which comes with interchangeable breech-faces and barrels in both 10mm and .45 ACP and it will hold either ten rounds of .45 ACP or fourteen rounds of 10 mm. This gun has an aluminum frame with "steel rails" and a stainless steel slide and weighs in at twenty-three ounces empty. The other one is an all steel/hard chrome plated Officers Model size frame with a Commander size slide in 10 mm and it holds eight rounds, and empty weighs in at twenty nine ounces. Both guns are custom hand made, of course. [:D][:D][:D][8D][8D] ...and if money is no object... there are some of us out there that build them, and sometimes even offer them for sale here at GB's. [8D][;)]

    Let us not forget Bill Ruger's Buckeye Special with cylinders for 38-40 and 10mm. While they're getting scarce, a bit of looking around can still find 'em on the used market. A great shooter in both calibers for single-action fans.

    The Buckeye's are not in CURRENT production. In fact, I understand that the Buckeye store they were produced for has also gone under. I do not know that for a fact however...
