Astra 400 eats all?
Hello, I came across an Astra 400 pistol (nice workmanship and finish) There is a myth saying this gun is able to fire almost any 9mm load (9 Luger, 38ACP, 9 Largo, 9x23, 9 Steyr, 9 Bayard.....) Is it true?
How can a blowback pistol works firing such powerful rounds when most blowbacks are designed for nothing higher than .380? The spring should be extremely stiff!

The springs are extremely strong, and the slide is massive. I've fired .38 Super, .38 ACP and 9 x 19 in mine. 0 -
It isn't a myth. The breech face and chamber tolerances on the 400 are extremely GENEROUS, to say the least. The recoil spring is a mother, the first time I took one apart, ( without restraining it properly ), It shot out into another room and I had trouble finding it.
Be that as it may, the pistols havn't been made since the early 1940's, and were made specifically made for the Spanish 9mm Largo pistol cartridge. To fire other much hotter ammo in them, that they weren't specifically chambered for, isn't a prudent thing to do.

I personally wouldn't fire the .38 Super in one. Safety wise, it probably wouldn't hurt you, but it's is bound to batter the weapon.
