How can you tell a nickle finish from an ultimate stainless finish? The bluebook lists both and I don't know which one I have. Also how can you tell the year it was made by the serial no.? Does the serial no. give any other info about the gun?

    I have a Colt Python polished SS with a 8" barrel. The gun is NIB. all paper work, carrying case, the cylinder has never been rotated. I bought the gun in 1993. gun serial number is PY3985 My question is, what's it worth? Thanks, I appreciate any help...[:D]

    I had work done a few years back by Spokhand Guns, Spokane, WA they did very high quality work and were reasonably priced, but I don't know if they are even still in business, since I haven't carried a duty revolver since 1989.

    I would call Colt and explain the fact that I was not satisfied with prior service and suprisingly they will go out of their way to assist and accomodate you. Give them another chance, I have found that going back to the original source is sometimes not the best way to go but in this case it just may be. I have had nothing but good luck with colt and I own quite a few Pythons.

    They told me that they do not do metal work.
    they would just polish it if the pitting did not

    Pittsburgh Handgun is recommended BY Colt. Unlike Colt, they have many obsolete parts. There have been several engineering changes to the Python, & only a few places have the unique early parts. PH does first class work. Not cheap, but the best.
