I'm in the market. I've shot a buds - sweet. Looking in the GB auctions some ads mention a "new frame". Does anyone know what the frame changes were?

    Does anybody here own one? Would any of the experts here consider owning one? I have a gun collecting itch and I think that this one would be a good piece to add to my collection. I understand that right now the ammo one can buy is not armor piercing and one can only get a 10 round mag for it unless they are LE. Im basically curious as to how they perform and if they are worth the 800 to 900 bucks

    UN-likely.

    Bans (of all kinds) generally only work one way.

    How many people actually want these? Can't be too many.

    So with no constituency, what politician is going to vote to permit this gun? There is absolutely no political gain in doing so.

    This ban just kills me. You can do more damage with a .223(5.56mm NATO) SS109 and those are accessible all over the place. It is a matter of time before people figure out that you can chamber a lot of things for this round.
    The 5.7 is nothing more than a light, short .22 cal high power round. But not as powerful as the .223.

    It's big 'scare thing' is that the round can be shot from a concealable pistol(made by Herstal). Therefore a dangerous and formidable weapon to police on the street. I personally think other things have worse potential.
    I had the priveledge of watching a friend of mine on a SWAT team doing some training. They had this round(5.7) chambered in a sub-machine gun type weapon. It was an H&K, like an MP-5 execpt it was adapted to hold a super high volume circular magazine.
    Each time they went through the drill they had to shoot the iron tip-over bad guy targets set up throught the traing run. The .45's knocked them down first shot, same with the .40's and .223's in car15. The 9mm's averaged 2 shots. The little 5.7's were pathetic. Several hits and sometimes got no knockdown. My friend and I discussed this round after the training and he said his lieutenant was told that these had all the power of a .223. Why he couldn't see that it was vastly underpowered is beyond me. One line of reasoning was that it won't penetrate a trailerhouse wall..... Yes it would! That is the only thing it will penetrate.

    Its also not (nearly) as powerful as the .357 that used to be standard issue to every cop in America.

    The FN round is just a glorified, centerfire .22 magnum. It puts out about the same muzzle energy as a standard 9mm luger. (IE 1/3 of the energy of the .223 round):

    The advantage of the FN round is that its super high velocity, so you get a nice long range, a flat trajectory, and compared to its energy you get little recoil (momentum). The biggest advantage (and the reason its so hated by the gun haters) is that the high velocity and small caliber make the armor piercing rounds extremely effective in a gun with high capacity and low recoil. Of course rounds designed to pierce armor are illegal for civilians anyway, so that negates most of the supposed benefit of this gun.

    the rounds are illegal? i thought ive seen them advertised on here for sale...i would like to own one...not to carry but more as the type of gun you keep by the bed ya know...only thing is ammo is expensive and i belive once its gone its gone...what good is a gun that has no ammo to feed it?

    I've seen one of the guns; haven't heard word one on a ban although the antis just don't quit.

    If I am not mistake, its the *armor piercing* rounds that are illegal for civilians.

    You know something, the way bans work, if I were clever I'd come up with a gun just to get it banned to jack up the prices so that I could be a millionaire!

    The SS 190 has the pointed steel and alluminium core bullet.
    That's the illegal one.

    The other I've read of, the SS 192, is the ammo some can still buy.

    Why would anyone want a 20+1 semi-auto shooting 650 meter per second bullets?
    Sounds fun.

    More fun than the Powers think we can handle without ruining our morals.

    I think a lot of the "ban hype" is actually brought on by the sellers of that particular FN trying to drum up panic and therefore higher prices.
    The AP ammo hasn't ever been legally offered to civilians here, and that is the only one that really has any problems. However, the anti's will use ANY excuse to bad any firearms no matter how poor the reasoning... [:(!]

    Even the non-armor piercing stuff can go through a Level IV vest. When you have small cross-sectional density with high enough velocity, you don't exactly need super-duper steel core stuff to go through them.

    Mpolans, you are incorrect. The ATF did a study of all ammo varients and only the AP round defeated vests. SS-192 Hollopoint ammo isn't banned, but FN has announced that they will cease import of it. That is the stuff you see on GB. I own a 5.7, and do love shooting it. I don't know who started this hype, but its stupid. Even before the ban the gun cost me about $900. No thug is going to pay that price for a gun.
