Hi Standard firing pin problem?
I've got a really nice/accurate HIGH STANDARD `VICTOR' ...

Well ... I agree for the most part with that ad - BUT - I seem to have a firing
pin problem. I'm replacing a second one. I've had two that broke in half - the actual striking surface. Is this a recognized problem or am I having a unique problem? It's worked absolutely perfectly for years and all of a sudden ... in a two month period, two 'bad' pins!
Coincidence? Anyone else have this problem?
Any advice would be welcomed!

While I'm thinking of it ... has anyone found a 'better than average' .22
to feed their Hi Standard? I've been using 'Wild Cat' ammo for years and
they work fine but I'm wondering if anyone has a 'pet round' that they like.

thats why youre breaking your pins. wildcats are HIGH V!
hi standards were designed to shoot standard velocity. hi stds were designed around the remington match grade bullet.
i have shot 100's of hi stds and every gun i shot with cci green tags never failed.
are your firing pins NOS or aftermarket? i say its the hi v thats doing it. next i'd look at the slide springs. but try changing ammo first.

Hello from front to back where do they break? I have been shooting H.S. for 40 years and broke one pin gun still worked but very light hit on the rim . I bet the new pin you put in was a NEW MADE CAST part see if you can get an old forged part If you have been shooting HIGH VEL. ammo you might have damaged the recoil spring and this could result in slide slaming back as BOBSKI noted get a new fireing pin return spring new fireing pin and new recoil spring if possible and shoot standard vel. ammo. 0 -

Wow I am impressed on the photo If I see what I think I see it looks like the tip is not shaped the way it should be.Is this where the break / chip occured. NEVER sen that happen I happen to be a master class shooter but only because of many years of BULLS-EYE shooting I do alot of testing of AMMO on a ransom rest and different pistols like different ammo remember one lot of a brand may shoot great in your gun and a different lot may not . Storage and handling of ammo in 22 rim fire is very important. If you drop a case on a hard floor the primer compound will crack and you will get many misfires I like JAGD- It is german made and the bullet is almost black and very slick feeds well and does not build up WAX.I buy my ammo from WWW.CHAMPCHOICE they set up a store at CAMP PERRY and have large lots of ammo so you can buy a brick of 3or 4 lots go home and test then order as much of the lot that shoots inyour gun as you want. 0 -
