forcing cones...!
I am trying to take some of the kick out of my benelli super black 3 1/2 magnum, and also improve the pattern. Does lenghtning the forcing cone really work or is it a waste of $$.

Some of the older guns had a very short forceing cone as the old roll crimp made for a shorter case when fired so when we went to star crimp it caused the shell not enough room to fully open this gave hard kick however in your case I think the Benelli would only benifit a small amount. as it is a new gun.and only made for the last few years. . The heavier the shot load the more recoil. you can't change that fact. 0 -
unless you shoot 200 or 500 rounds a week, you wont sense a difference. and too, forcing cone mods are really best done in conjunction with other mods i/e: porting, weighing the gun down, balancing, ammo choice, etc... if you think that just doing a cone job will fix the problem, youll be disapointed. its like putting a big breather on your carb but dont change the jets. or putting a hi performance exhaust on your car to improve flow, but dont do anything to the carb...follow me? fyi...cones do nothing to a pattern, the choke does.

You have to to a number of things as Bobski alluded to. On my SBE I added recoil reducers inside the stock, lengthened the stock, but the 3.5 rounds still kick like a mule and that will never change.
