Liberty II sixgun

I was told that the Liberty II single action army replicas that were on the market awhile back was a batch of guns that American Western Arms didn't pay for, then Charles Daly aquired and sold them as Liberty II's. Is this story correct? Also how many Liberty II's were there and when did they first appear on the market?
