Used gunkote?
Ordered 3 cans from Brownell's today. The matte black,silver and OD.
The black is going on a Mauser for a friend, who said to give it a try. He wants to see it too. I am thinking that the barrel and reciever should be separated, would you agree ? Will the finish stand up to re-installation ? Any other tips ? As with anything prep is key I'm sure.

Do the mauser with the barrel attached. Just make sure you blast the metal first cause if you dont it will chip. Its gotta be rough so the GUN Kote can bite into and bond to the metal. I made the mistake myself teh first time adn tried to scuff the gun with some sandpaper...chipped the 2nd day. And you can use glass bead if you clean very very well. I have used it on a coupel of handguns and it is a tough finish that stands up well and if you do what the instructions say it is easy...but do folow them. Also some of the colors can be more finicky so watch your temp and the time. Black and silver are more forgiving but the gun blue is picky. If you leave it in too long or bake it too hot i turns greenish, too short or cold and its a wierd royal blue. 0
