Removing scratches from Browning Stocks?
What's the best way to remove scratches from a Browning high gloss stock? They are in the finish, not into the wood. Also, what's the best way to remove dents when the finish is intact?If you were to remove all the old finish with chemicals, would you refinish with polyurethane or BLO? I love Brownings but hunting sure messes with a beautiful stock. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions that work for you.

While beautiful when new, the Browning high gloss stocks are easily damaged & impossible to (invisibly) repair. You can fill the scratches with polyurethane to protect the wood, but don't expect it to look good.
The last one I bought is the last one I will ever buy.

I happened to me as well on my Browning shiny .22 autoloader. I apply some polyuretane very carefully, but it can be noted....[:(]

Brownells has a 5-F polishing compound that will remove fine scratches, but no more than that. If they are deeper then use polyurathane to fill them and then use the 5-F to blend it all in as close as you can get it.

I finally decided to refinish my .308 BLR's stock. Removed all the old finish with stripper, lightly smoothed with 600 grit cloth and fine steel wool, applied a thin coat of walnut stain, and finished with 3 coats of Tru-Oil. I like it better than the original. Next project is refinishing the scratched stock on my Browning .22 lever action. 0 -

If the scratch is light you can polish it out with Brownell's 4 or 5 F polish. If it is very deep into the finish you would have to polish all the finish off to get it out. In this case filler is the way to go. I too use True Oil to fill and then after it hardens to a dry finish I lightly polish with 5 F Brownell's polish. 0
