FRENCH MAS 49-55 in 308 cal,???
I have a chance to bid on one of these at an auction and know nothing about them are they good? bad? or??? what mag capasity 10 or 20 round any thoughts on this rifle you could share? thanks for reading my post.

These rifles have had problems after being converted from 7.5x54 French. 0 -
I have heard that these rifles that have been converted from 7.5X54 French to 308 have nothing but very bad feed and extraction problems. A complete waste of money. 0 -
There are two versions converted this way to .308. The first, done at MAS in order to comply with NATO standards was thoroughly competant and a very good design alteration. The conversion done by CIA is a bit less desireable, and in point of faact is the ONLY problem situation I've encountered regarding these ugly, but fine rifles.
My advice?...stick with the original chambering and either pony up with the cash or get yourself a set of dies and start reloading for it. I have 2 of the originals that I got when they were selling the factory new ones for$249. I've been very happy with both!
