A-bolt Composite Stalker?
My elderly father recently gave me a new A-bolt composite stalker in 25/06. I believe he'd fired 2 boxes through it since new. I thought it might make a nice little varmint rifle. I took it out to the range and tryed a box of factory 120's and a box of 87's that I reloaded.
The damn rifle don't shoot worth a #$%^. Both factory and reloads group 1-3/4 at 50yards. The factory trigger is terrible too, but I can't blame the groups on that. And the barrel is free floated there are no tight spots. And I've cleaned it with sweets 7.62 so I can't blame it on a dirtly barrel.
Anyone else have one of these? How does yours shoot, any pet loads out there that worked well? Thanks, Dave

Had one in 300wm, same problem with accuracy. I tried several factory and handloads in it with the best group measuring over 2 inches at 100 yards. I even tried changing scopes and did a trigger job to no avail. Got rid of it ASAP. Maybe it was me, maybe the rifle, but I didn't want it after that.

I'm not quite sure what to make of your problem, was you scope mounted good and tight? I have had nothing but great things from mine in 300WSM, @200yds I can put a bullet through a bullet hole with a my stock rifle. I shoot Winchester Supreme and its incredibly accurate. You may want to re-mount your scope, and make sure you are useing quality bases and rings( I have a Redfield base and Leupold rings)
Is yours the A-bolt II? If so the you can adjust your trigger pull.

I've got one in .300 Win Mag. Stainless Stalker with BOSS. Shoots 165 grain Sierras @ 3300 fps (chrono'ed ) inside of one inch, at 100 yards every time. Three out of ten tries I can get under a .50 inch group (three shots). The differance may be the BOSS system.
I got to shoot another Stainless Stalker in .338 win mag without BOSS. It put 3 shots into one inch, but just barely.
Try looking at the recoil lug area to see if the stock fits it well.
Also tighten the front action screw very tight and the rear action screw with two fingers and a thumb.
You might check to see if the barrel is hitting the forestock due to insufficient clearance.

Thanks for the replys, there is plenty of clearance between the barrel and stock, I've adjusted the trigger as far as it will go and it's still just plain bad. I've already checked the mounts, rings, and scope. I'll check the bedding on the action.
It's not the shooter either, I shoot many thousands of rounds in the winter alone. I shoot in a 4 position indoor smallbore league. My average this last season was 391.6 out of a possible 400.0 -
UEG, I have the A-bolt Stalker in .280 and it is an accurate gun, HOWEVER, it is not as accurate as my BAR and it shoots a shot string instead of a normal group. It will shoot a 5 shot group at 100 yds. in a 1 to 1 1/2" "string" going up and down. It is always up and down. Like you, I also shoot quite often and can consistently shoot sub-moa groups with most of my centerfire rifles. I own about a dozen centerfire rifles and the A-bolt is the only one that shoots a string. I have tried different ammo and it still does it. I still like the gun and have taken whitetails and groundhogs with it, but it is odd the way it groups. I've been told the BOSS system is not worth the trouble and to avoid it.

Vertical shot stringing is almost always due to the barrel hitting the forestock during the shot. Try sanding the barrel channel in the stock until a piece of cut-up cerial box can be used for a go-nogo feeler guage. Or maybe the rubber recoil lug seating compound in the stock is missing just enough to let the action seat too deeply.
If that is the case, return the rifle to Browning for a re-fit.
One question if I may, who said that the BOSS system isn't worth the effort ? I have never heard that about Browning Stainless Stalkers. It seems that the less expensive Winchesters never benefitted much from the BOSS, though. [8D]0 -
Bitter, I have asked quite a few people about it and have heard more negative than positive. The main person I listened to is an old friend in the military(Major Anthony Willard Warren- currently serving in Japan) that has much more experience than I do. I personally have never tried one because of the warning to avoid it. I guess it is like anything else, it is personal experience/preference. Supposedly the accuracy gain, if any, is miniscule. I say if the BOSS works for you and you are happy with it, its all good. I might try your suggestion for the shot strings.
