Identify bayonet & sheath
About 10 years ago, I bought a bayonet and leather sheath from a Seminole Indian tribal shop in FL, where it was on consignment. The seller said it was a "saddle sheath".
The bayonet is 11 1/2" long and has "US" on one side near the handle and "1900" on the other. It has wooden grips and fits my `03 Springfield. Is this a Krag bayonet?
The old leather sheath was professionally made. It has machine stitching. All the hardware appears of a dark brass color. It has a 1 1/2" ring attached where a belt loop would be. Above this ring and 2/3 down the body are two leather loops. These loops are 1/2" wide and with their metal buckles form a ring of about 3" diameter. This I suppose could go around a bedroll. They are also about the distance apart and size to fit the two slits on the rear of a McClellan military saddle.
What do I have and what might it be worth (The Indian didn't say what happened to the soldier that owned it).

Correction: Bayonet BLADE is 11 1/2" long. 0 -
Post a photo...Its possible that You have a Krag Bayonet...I'll need to see a photo before commenting Further....

Hello, you probably have a Krag bayonet in what is refered to as the Picket Pin Sheath. These were used to hold the picket pin for the Horse and somehow wound up being used as a bayonet sheath. I have had several over the years.

Hello, Yes that is the Picket Pin Scabbard. I assume its also the Krag Bayonet.
