Smith and Wesson Model 1000 Value
I have an chance to buy a Smith and Wesson Model 1000. Looks like new, less than a box through it.Problem is I never heard of a Smith and Wesson Shotgun before and have no idea of its worth or dependabilty,any input would be helpfull. I believe it has a 28'' barrel and 2- 3/4 chamber and is Semi auto. (Ser.FB538xx)

250.00 to 325.00 for a nice field grade gun. check the gas piston o ring. they tended to melt causing cycling problems. HOWA of japan made the gun for s&w. when s&w dropped shotguns, mossberg bought them all up and resold them as mossberg 1000's. all the same gun. 0 -

Thanks for the reply,At 250.00 seems like a good deal a little concern over the "0" ring issue. Will have to do some home work!

read the thread going on a few lines up on the expert room about the o ring. trapp55 is a good reference on those guns. listen to him![8D]

Kar, Pull the forend off with the bolt locked back. You'll see a slot in the mag tube. At the bottom of this slot(end closest to the reciever)you should see a black rubber washer inside the tube. It should be visable just above the bottom edge of the slot. If it's not, you will probably see what looks like black tar inside the tube. This "was" the piston shock absorber that the piston pin recoils against. If the gun is shot without it, the pin will hammer the mag tube in that area and bulge it to the point where the action can't cycle. The 1000's only 2 weak points are this part and the pressure relief valve (the 1st part under the forend cap), other than that, it's one of the best auto loaders ever made. For $250, if you don't buy it, let me know where I can![;)]
