Marlin 60. . .these worth the bother?
I saw a used one recently for $50. A few nicks and dings, but otherwise in good shape.
I figure how bad can these be, right? They are made by Marlin.
How is accuracy with these rifles? Are they reliable with various types of ammo? Can these be easily scoped?

I had a SS one and it was real accurate. Thats about an average price for a used one around here. 0 -

Check and see if it has the metal trigger housing or plastic, of course metal is better

Marlin Model 336 and Models 39-A and 39-M manufactured from 1948 to 1968:
A one or two letter code was used to designate the year of manufacture.
All Marlins (except lever action) manufactured from 1962-1968
A two letter code was used to designate month and year of manufacture.
All Marlins manufactured from 1969 to 1990:

Recently I bought a Marlin M-60 made in 1965 for $40. I cleaned off the rust,spray painted the stock,(yes it was that bad) took it apart and cleaned the inside and barrel, added a cheap Weaver .22 scope, and sighted it in at 35 yards. Not a single jam while shooting over 300 rounds and it will group 15 rounds in the size of a dime at this distance. Yes, buying an old, cheap Marlin auto is well worth the time and money.

the first rifle my dad got for me was the marlin 60, it still works great, very accurate and fun to shoot. the stocks are kinda cheap but for their price and what you can do with them, they are worth it. just my opinion.

My first 22 rifle was a Marlin model 60, mom bought it for me when I was 13. I would go so far to say that a stock Marlin 60 will out shoot a custom Ruger 10/22. But I find loading it to be a pita.

A tubular mag sure loads easier and quicker than a rotary mag.
For 50 bucks, I'd go for it, doc.

My first rifle bought with my own money when I turned 18 was a new Marlin 60. I've probably put 10,000 rounds through it. The finish isn't so great, but it is quite accurate. It does occasionally jam but perhaps 1 in 500 rounds.

Go for it. For a fun, reliable, accurate .22, it's hard to beat. Open the action and look inside. Make sure the ejector is a piece of wire. They never break. The older pot metal molded in ejectors seldom broke, but when they did, you might as well scrap the rifle.

I do have a marlin 60, and a glenfield model 60 while it is the dame gun the glenfield has a better stock, and is all steel 0 -
99.5% of model 60s were great .22s,but the other .5% were jammers that were almost impossable repair.The last one I bought had been stored in a barn and was full of scratch feed.I cleaned it up and it made as good of rifle as you would want. 0
