Smith and Wesson 38 question

I just picked up a S&W Model 14-4 .38 Spl Targetmaster and noticed that the firing pin is loose allowing the pin to rotate slightly up and down. Is this normal ? This is my first revolver so please pardon me if it sounds like a stupid question. I have not fired the gun yet....Joe

    You haven't fired it yet?? I hope you can get used to the accuracy the model 14 has. Mine shoots better than I do.

    I got the pistol the day before I had to leave on my annual reserve training and had to wait for the 48 hour cool off period. I'll give it a try tonight. Joe

    Joe..... Your going to love that gun. I still have the first 14 I bought back in 1967. I carried it at work before we went to autos.

    Very accurate, smooth action ,great balance. Reed and Malloy carried model 14's on the Adam-12 T.V. series. They were issue guns by LAPD for many years.

    Have fun with it.

    ATF..... They were 6". Most model 14's were 6" and 8 3/8", but there were also a few made with 4" and 5" barrels.

    I recall the guns in the TV show as 6". I have 3 of them and they are all great shooters. Iam not positive, but I think they may have also used a 4" revolver in later shows.

    Thanks Joe,here's a picture of my 14-3 4" and 14-2 6" together.The 4' is almost identical to a mod 15 except you'll notice the barrel is heavier [^]

    Yep, I need to find a 4" 14 for my collection. I have 3 6inchers and a 4" model 15. Now I need the 4" model 14 and a 2" model 15.

    I got it out to the range this week. What a great shooter ! With a little practice I was able to shoot nearly as good in rapid fire as timed fire. Makes you wonder why people pay the big bucks for a custom 1911 for bullseye. (like me, sort of) Got the red dot mount on the way, but will be looking for the vintage class matches with the iron sights......Joe (the other Joe)
