class 3 license

I live in MI, have a C&R license as well as a carry permit.

What do I need to do to obtain a class 3 license? Must I have a FFL first?

I have called the ATF, emailed the ATF and written the ATF [three weeks ago] with no answers.

"Do to their work load, it may take several days for a return phone call" to any messages left on a recorder. Note the " marks. No return call after three messages.

Any ideas?

    JUST WONDERED HOW HARD IT IS TO OBTAIN A CLASS 3 LICENSE. I WOULD LIKE TO START A COLLECTION. ALSO WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS. I LIVE IN OHIO. THANKS.

    you will need to obtain the class III license form, and that is the highest form of FFL other than a manufacturers FFL. You will have about a 6 month+/- investigation into your background and will have to pay a much larger fee than with the lesser FFL licenses. You will also need to be fingerprinted, and in this state, that is taken care of at the state police main office. There may be other things or different rules in your area.

    You need a Class III license only if you intend to operate a business selling Class III weapons, & I don't think that's what you want to do. Are you saying that you want to BUY a Class III weapon? Have you located the Class III weapon? Have you found a Class III dealer in your state to transfer it to you?

    Go to the ATF website, go to Firearms, then select National Firearms Act; that should answer all of your questions.

    Incidentally, since you have a C&R, you can have a Class III C&R sent directly to you, without having a local Class III dealer. (All NFA rules, & state/local laws, apply.)
