Tikka T3 Varmint Stainless Steel
I would like to get some opinions about the Tikka T3 Varmint Stainless Steel (Note that I'm NOT talking about the "Super Varmint" model...I don't have the money to buy that one. Also, here's a link to Beretta's website if you'd like to look at the exact model I'm talking about: http://www.berettausa.com/product/product_rifles_main.htm). I really want a heavy barrel, but in a package that weighs a less than the 9-10 lbs. that other 26" heavy barrel models are running. At 6 lbs. 10 oz., with a 24" heavy barrel, it seems like this Tikka might be a great "carry" rifle and still give me the heavy barrel that I want. However, I've read that there have been issues with Tikka's barrels exploding. Has that issue been addressed? Has anyone had experience with this particular model? What are your thoughts in general? Thanks for your input.

Thanks Beeramid...Yeah, that's one of a few threads I have read through. Overall, are Tikkas nice guns and they just had this "bad batch" of barrels that's been resolved, or should I steer clear of them all together? 0 -
I wish I could give you info on the stainless barrels but mine is blued....what I can tell you is that my t3 is one of the finest rifles I've ever used

I currently own a Tikka M695 in .300 win mag. I purchased it a few years ago and it has been nothing but "absolutely reliable." My dad also currently owns 3 of them. The actions are very smooth and the accuracy is superb. I have shot everything from 125 Gr. TNT's to 200 Gr. Grand Slam's and they have all shot great groups. From my understanding, these have just been a bad batch of barrels that they have been having problems with. I would recommend purchasing a sightly older one or waiting a little bit until they get the problem resolved, if they haven't already. Great Guns from my experience though.

Well olsenjb, I have not familiarized myself with the time period of the problem that the tikka rifles were experiencing. In my opinion you have 3 good options.
1. If you can find a new, pre-beretta Tikka rifle purchase that. What I mean is one that was manufactured before beretta bought them out. This would be your safest bet, but im not sure if you can find one that is "new."
2. Get 100% accurate information on when the recall began and find a rifle that was made before that.(I would go about a year or so before, but I always like to play it safe)
3. Possibly look at the other rifle companies.
Keep in mind this is my opinion, exactly what caliber were you looking for? I hope this was of some help to you.

Buy it with confidence. The serial number range of affected rifles, 419140-461951, has been clearly posted. Amoung these a reported 1,700 (according to SAKO) rifles had been affected. There were 6 reports of actual malfunctions. There is a toll free number 1-800-503-8869 you can call to see if the Tikka is OK, but word is that ALL rifles currently being sold are good to go and SAFE to shoot. That being said, and having shot SAKO's almost exclusively for the last 30 years, you will be spoiled by the quality of the gun and the accuracy will do you proud! They do cost a little more but generally you get what you pay for!

if your looking for something with a heavy barrel with less weight check out the winchester m70 coyote lite....new for this year....fluted heavy bbl wieghs 7.6lbs and comes in all those nifty wsm and wssm
