11-87 Premier Skeet... No ! It's a Trap Gun?

I bought this one today because of the beautiful condition(about 99%) and a great price. It says"Premier Skeet" on the receiver but it has a 30" ported "TARGET" 2 3/4 inch shells only barrel with a "FULL" screw-in trap choke. The stock is a pistol grip style without cheekpiece or monte-carlo cut. It came in a nice leather and fleece lined soft case. The gun looks like new. What's the deal with the "SKEET" marking on the receiver and a trap barrel? Could it have been sold like that from the factory or did someone sell the gun with an accessory trap barrel installed? Serial number is PC1610xx.
Thank you for any suggestions or information. I was also wondering when it was made.

    The Remington 11-87 is a very nice and popular gun in my part of the world. It isn't a problem at all to add whatever barrel that the shooter wants to the receiver. Somewhere along the way it is likely that a shooter fixed it up to suit himself. Put a skeet barrel back on it and shoot away!!!

    The former owner was probably using it for sporting clays. If you like the balance and swing, change out the choke to a cyl/skeet/imp.cyl (pick one) and shoot skeet with it. If it feels a little nose heavy, or the swing is a little slow for you, than pick up a 26" barrel (along with th approperate choke tube).

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    a bbl swap took place somewhere along the road. a lot of skeet shooters are switching to 30" bbls and using full choke so they wont have to lead the targets as far anymore. dont laugh, ive seen 32" skeet guns at matches! you have a skeet gun wit ha trap bbl. to make it right, get a 26 or 28" VR remchoke bbl. make sure you get the target bbl with a center bead.

    Thanks for your comments and suggestions. One more thing, there is no safety on this shotgun. Is that a problem? Could one be added if desired? Thanks again.

    most safeties are removed from target guns. if forgotten and left on, it could cost you a tournament. no reshoot allowed for a safety on! having it gone is no probelm at all.
