Weatherby Vanguard Stainless .22-250

I'm in the market for a .22-250. I would like a lighter "carry" rifle, but I don't want to go with the shorter 22" barrels that come on the Rugers and Remington LV-SF. Since it's a gun I want to pack quite a bit, I don't particularly like the heavy varmint rifles that weigh 9-10 lbs. Also, money IS an object (unfortunately)...I would really like to stay around $600 or so. The Weatherby Vanguard seems to be a nice "middle-of-the-road" size. It has a 24" barrel and weighs under 8 lbs. I was curious what your thoughts and/or experiences have been with this make and model? I've read that Weatherby guarantees groups of 1.5" straight out of the box. Is that consistent with your experiences? Thanks for your help.

    I just picked up the Weatherby Vangard .270, I'll be putting a Leupold VX II 3-9x40 on it this weekend and hopefully taking it out to the range. So far it looks really well made and I'm looking forward to seeing what she'll do.[;)]

    My 257 WM Vanguard will shoot under the accuracy guarantee with handloads. Factory ammo is pretty close to that, but it's kinda pricey.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    Some other advantages to the Weatherby Vangard is that if the rifle doesn't perfrom (1.5 inch group @100 yards) send it back. The gaurantee has previously been mentioned and it is a "no lose" proposition.

    Additionally, the rifle uses a Howa barrel which is very well made.

    Additionally, the rifle comes with an adjustable trigger. More and more manufacturers are beginning to offer the adjustable trigger as a very welcome accessory, but Weatherby was one of the first. A good trigger really helps accuracy.

    Finally, the Weatherby Vangard is very reasonably priced. They can be had on the shelf at your local Wal-Mart for less than $500.00 with a synthetic stock. If your local Wal-Mart doesn't have one in stock, the sales people are more than happy to special order one for you with just about whatever features are desired.

    I think the Vangard is a fantastic value rifle.
