20 gauge o/u / which one??

I'm shopping for a 20 gauge O/U and was considering either a CZ or Spartan. I looked at a Baikal over the weekend, and thought it felt a bit cheap compared to a CZ. Has anyone heard good/bad info about the CZ Canvasback? Anyone know anything about Spartans?? Someone else mentioned a Stoeger Condor.

I would like to stay between $500-700 if possible. I don't do a lot of trap of skeet shooting, just upland bird hunting. I would like a solid gun that will last.

Any thoughts or advice? Thanks

    I'm with duckhunter on this one, put a little more money in the budget and get a Ruger. Fit, finish, feel they have it all. Or look for a used Miroku.[;)]

    If you are set on getting one that you mentioned, they are all good guns for the field. The Stoegers are a sudsidiary of Benelli and are good solid guns. My brother has a Condor and loves it because it is something he can take out and rough up in the field. I have an Uplander SxS for the same purpose, to take it out hunting without worrying about every little ding and scratch.

    As far as the CZ is concerned, they are made by Huglu I believe and are lightweight and seem to be of good quality. I have the CZ 712 semi auto and really enjoy hunting with it.

    I haven't seen much of the new Spartan line, but I wasn't really impressed with the Baikal name before.

    Verona has a good field line at aound that price, so you may want to check them out as well. Hopefully this will help you out some.

    Spend the little extra and get the Ruger or a used: Winchester, Citiori or Beretta or any other higher end name. You will be much happier with the gun in the long run and the difference in the resale value will astound you.

    For under $700 you definitely should be able to find an older citori and maybe a red label if you look real hard. Baikal and Spartan are one in the same. The only difference is the distributor. Saw them side by side on the gun rack. Both had Baikal, Russia stamped in the same place on the reciever. If you don't care about screw in chokes you may even find an old winchester in that price range. baikals are a bit bulky for my taste but from what I hear serve their purpose.

    I thought I needed a Ruger but found neither English or conventional stock fitted me. Snap them all to your shoulder. A flushing grouse won't
    give you time to align a poorly fitting gun.
    A used Beretta fit me best and was lighter too.
    I overpaid at $800 but love the gun.

    I have a Spartan O/U in 28 guage, and I love it. I wouldn't like it any better if it said Ruger or Browning or whatever. It shoots good, and so far has dealt many a lethal blow to the blackbird population that has taken up residence. I had a match pair of Winchester 101 pigeon grades at one time. IU bought them while stationed in Germany in the military. They were nice. Too nice, in fact. I couldn't stand it when I scratched them when I was bird-dogging for pheasants, so I traded them in on something cheaper. I looked at the Stoeger Condor before I bought this Spartan, but for me, the Spartan pointed a little better. The Spartan is a plain jane though, and if you don't like plain janes, don't buy one.

    Two votes against the Ruger red label. Bought one and it did not point sufficient. Sold it..
