handgun trade in bordering states

can you do a gun trade between individuals, one PA and the other in OH with a hand written receipt. And which state would it be legal to make the transaction if any? Thank you, Jeronimo.

    Not legally. Federal law prohibits the transfer of firearms between unlicensed residents of different states. The transfer would have to be performed by a licensed dealer in the recipient's home state.

    I live on the border of 2 states and it happens all day long every day. So if there is a law against it it certainly is not being enforced. Infact I recently purchased a gun from a sherrif deputy in another state. Sorry, but legal or not, the transfer of arms between 2 non-licensed owners in different states is rampent not enforced, and it would be a nightmare to enforce.

    You should just do what some people do. Own property in one state, live in another and claim resedency in the third. Then there is no issue with cross state transfer. You can even get resident fishing/hunting license in all three. Legal?? doubt it but know of three families that do it. Mine included!

    Many states issue "resident" hunting & fishing licenses to those who own property in the state, regardless of whether or not they are residents. Federal firearms laws are another thing; you can only be a resident of one state. Anyone who thinks that he can shuck & jive his way out of a federal firearms violation is sadly mistaken. Trust me, prisons are full of guys who said, "Who's going to know?"

    Not quite sure when the BATF was allowed to violate our Constitutional rights. As far as I know you can buy or sell any firearm that meets the state laws of the state the firearm(s) is going to be brought into. In New York you would be hung for purchasing a firearm this way...but it's okay to mug or threaten someone. Out west there will be no questions asked as there aren't any laws restricting the Constitution of the United States of America

    The Federal Government recognizes my family as having partial year residencies at all three locations. It is a lot of extras when it comes to taxes (state and federal)but it is worth the hastle. If one Federal agency recognizes multiple residencies why would it be different for another? I can find nothing in the laws that restricts me from purchasing a firearm at one property and having it registered to that property and then transporting to another for use (it appears to be treated the same as if I were crossing state lines for hunting). As long as I still maintain ownership.

    Maybe I am just too "simple" to understand legal jargon.

    When I go to out of state gun shows they have always let me buy long arms with no trouble, but for handguns they have to transfer them to my local FFL. I would assume (if they are correct) that it would apply to person-to-person transfers too...
