savage model 340 .223

hey i'm new to this, i just went and looked at a savage model 340 in .223 remington with a bushnell sportsview 3-9X 32mm. i was just wondering how much this would be worth and if its a good gun, he's asking 350. gun would be used for varmint and deer

    Those 340's are going for $125 in fair up to $200 in excellent shape.
    The scope doesn't add much.
    It's not what you'd call a deer rifle in that caliber.

    Good rifle, but you can find them for a lot less than $350.00. Also, .223 isn't legal for deer in many states. Much better rounds for deer to choose from.

    The 340 in .223 caliber is a scarce item.Prices under $300.00 will be hard to find.[:)]

    I agree with ATF. IF you like the gun and it's in nice shape, a 340 in .223 is a rarity. Looked for one in .222 or .22 hornet. Found a .222 for $285 at gun show (about $50 too high by Blue Book) and just missed a hornet for $235. If you look around, I bought a slightly used .223 in mod. 110, blue, synthetic for $225 at gun shop.
    The new ones with a so-so scope package can be had for about $350
    in pretty much whatever flavor you want. But if it's a 340 .223 you want, might want to try to talk him down $20 or throw in a case.

    I bought one at show awhile back,mine is deluxe hand checkered with weaver post scope paid 385.00.i would like to find one in 225 win tks hedge

    I really like the 340's and have likely more than I should (2 225 Win's, a 342 Hornet, a 30/30, a 222 and a 223)and they are generally a real surprise at the range. The last one I bought was a mint 340 V in 225 Winchester and I paid close to $500 by the time all was said and done...well worth it though as it is really a cherry piece. The 223 version is the second rarest and will command a fairly high price if in really nice shape, say 95% or better, around $275. I would say a mint (98% or better) gun would be worth the $350 but be very critical of the condition for that kind of money. They are great little shooters and they basically quit making them as it was cheaper to produce a 110 than the 340's. Last weekend I brought out the 222 and after a few fouling shots, laced up a "1/2 group at 100 yards. This with a fairly well broken in 40 year old gun with a Savage side mount and an old Weaver K-8. It may not be the prettiest thing on the line but it will keep up with $2000 bench guns and the entire set-up scope mounts and all cost me about $275. Use your head but as I said, in really nice shape, the gun is worth at least close to what he's asking.
