S&W 1000
I just picked up one in excellent condition but the rubber o ring is gone to goo on it. What is the techincal name for the part. I couldnt find it on the diagrahm at Numrich. And about how hard are these to change?

Wehrmacht, the hard part is getting that black goo out of the mag tube. Check the area around the bottom of the piston pin slot on the mag tube for swelling from the pin slamming into it. The part you want is the piston shock absorber http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=366580B. Don't think that you can make one, it has to be just the right thickness and diameter. If gunparts doesn't have one, email me, I may have a spare. If they do, order a half dozen. Email me if you need help to get it apart, it's a beech when you do it the 1st time without help. I also have an original owners manual on file I can email, takes awhile though, 13pages and each is from 1mb to 3mb.

Yeah I have 3 of them(S&W 1000) and this is the first one that has needed it replaced. I find that if you watch how you oil the gun that the o ring lasts alot longer. I have heard of some guy making new rings out of similar stuff that is used in the softer AK buffers but I dont know how good it would work. Maybe if a person could find the orrect kind of rubber gasket material for automoive use, you could make one. Ill order about half a dozen since i love to take these guns hunting. Much lighter than the old A 5 magnum, especially a life saver in cold and wet weatehr when I have about 15 pounds of clothes on. Pheasant hunting in Iowa gets cold. 0 -
I've heard of them too, but never been able to find them. If you do, please let me know, the ones from Numrich have worked fine so far.
A note of caution when cleaning out the goo, some of the mag followers are made from plastic, so be careful with whatever type of solvent you use. The follower is non-removable from the tube, and the tube is a major PITA to change!
