savage or new england or Rossi

I would like to get a 17hmr rifle for shooing backbirds or just gerneal varmint cleanup. I want somthing lighter and handier than my 22/250. I looked at a new england at the gun shop and it seemed to have a pretty good trigger. The price was $180 with only weaver rail. I am not concered with only have a one round capacity with the break open. You only need one shot. Witch of these guns is more accurate? Or is there not really any significant differece.

Or what about a Rossi?

    I havn't shot the savage but all the nef's I've shot have been very accurate and would not hesitate to buy one.

    I have the Savage and it's very accurate, I have not shot the NEF. But think of all the extra barrels you could buy for the NEF.

    Only 4.25 lbs! you might forget you're carrying anything. I had an NEF in .243. The accuracy was OK but, not exceptional.

    I've got an NEF .223 with an additional .243 barrel and the accuracy is acceptable but nothing to brag about. However it's better than the NEF factory(2 1/2 in. @ 100 yds)clames it should be. Also I've had a lot of problems with extraction with both barrels as have a lot of other NEF owners that I've conversed with. Chamber polishing is a must. Otherwise the NEF is a fun combo gun with about 20 different barrel options avail.

    friends dont let friends buy NEF dad had several in several calibers and they where all a POS my dad and brother also each had savage bull barrels miss fire about 8 out of 10 shots I think they where lemons traded them in on 2 stainless savages and they worked just fine (and yes the dealer was aware of the problems) I prefer the Marlin

    Load on Sunday shoot all week!!!

    You will only be able to add a 22lr and or a 22mag barrel if you do go with the NEF single shot.

    I've been working with a freind's Savage mod. 93 in .17HMR heavy bbl. w/a cheapie Bushnell 3-9x32 rimfire scope.

    I started at 25 yards and that got boring real quick(one ragged hole[:D]),so,yesterday(after changing to a Tasco 6-24x40 w/AO),I set up at 50 yards and once I got it zeroed in,was grouping -1/2" w/a swirling 15 mph wind.

    The trigger needs some work,but I'm really impressed w/the accuracy.

    Next still day,I'll be movin' out to 100 yards and see what happens.

    You mentioned "light".Well,light it ain't w/the bull bbl.,but impressive none the less.[^]

    A lot of bang for the buck.

    I also have a NEF in .223.W/bull bbl.

    I wasn't happy w/the accuracy so I thought it might be the scope.That's the same scope that is now on the above mentioned Savage.
    Obviously,It's not the scope,but I have a Tasco 6-18x42 w/AO that I've mounted,but haven't shot it yet.
