U.S. Springfield Rifles

I wish to acquire a good representive U.S. Springfield of the Percussion era and Flintlock era. What Year Models may be most likely to find and be the least expensive to purchase? Most I have seen have missing parts and the possibility of locating is unknown to me, any help on this? Greatly appreciate your help as I wish to put an ad on Gunbroker Want Ads seeking the desired guns.

    MY 2?, at this point in time, ( 140+ years after percussion & flintlock firearms were last used by the US Military ). Your not going to be able to buy any of these firearms that are in FACTORY ORIGINAL, VERY GOOD or better condition inexpensively.

    Your best recourse would be to get in contact with a REPUTABLE dealer who SPECIALIZES in antique arms. Be prepared for sticker shock.

    Thank you "rufe-snow" for your response along with info. Please note that I did not use the word, "inexpensively", I stated, "least expensive". There is a difference in the meaning, Hope for other replies, please.

    I completely agree with rufe-snow. The biggest problem is finding a reputable dealer; in this area, mistakes are too costly.

    I suggest that you go to several of the high end gun shows so that you can talk to collectors & dealers who specialize in these guns; they will have tables full of the type of gun you are looking for:

    In my opinion, and after several years of collecting, a nice affordable representative percussion, would be either a model 1861, 0r 1863. As far as flintlock, model 1816 seems to be the most plentiful as far as original flint. There is a dealer here in Virginia named David Condon that has an excellent reputation, and impeccable credentials. Just type David Condon guns in Google. Good luck !

    I watched one sell at an auction a week ago that was in very good condition and appeared to be all original. I stayed in til it hit $500, it ended up selling for $1550. I don't know what it is worth, but $500 was all it was worth to me.
