Ruger MARK III HUNTER - whatchathink?
Today I was pawing over some old venerable Colts and
Lugers and that new Ruger Hunter kept calling my attention
to pick her up! She was flashing that stainless steel frame
and her 6 7/8" targetcrowned, fluted barrel at me! Also, she's pre-
drilled and tapped for the scope base adapter! Too much to
resist! Somebody here must have one! Anybody? Any comments?
My elderly Mark I from the late 50's is worn out - but she was/is such
a `natural pointer' ... I still can't resist throwing her into the
Jeep occasionally when we go down to the desert for a few days!
Would this new shameless tease be a good replacement? I won't be able
to get back to serious collecting until I can get this little hussy out
of my mind ... one way or 'nuther!

If you liked the old one, what is not to like on this one? Ruger trigger, a pain to clean, but other than that she is the girl of your dreams. So many guns, so little time and money... 0 -
Dunno - got a point there! The ole Mark I was a real pain to clean until I developed a
failproof 'system' for cleanen'r! I 'cleaned' her every four or five years if
she needed it, or not! Usually soaked her in a can of some kind of solvent for an
afternoon, swished her around every so often and oiled her back up when she dried
out! (My grandfather would have taken a horsewhip to me if he had known!)
To my amazement, she never stumbled or jammed - she even took a couple dips in saltwater
with me (unintentionally, of course) in Baja a few times - WITH - a follow up dip into Mexican gas immediately afterwards!
Nope - can't complain! The rest of the autos and wheelguns have always gotten the
best of care but she never complained or 'acted up' - so I guess it suited her fine!
So much for 'true confessions!'

I would say go for it. I have a Mk II and there not that hard to take apart, just have to learn how. As far as the trigger, mine is just fine. For the money the Ruger .22 auto's can't be beat. Now this is a mark III, which means it has some new polilically correct features some may not desire, like not firing when the magazine is out, and a loaded chamber indicator, and I think also a key lock (not sure about that). My opnion is this isn't a defensive gun, so these features aren't that big of a deal, IMO. I bet you that gun would be a tack driver.

Yes - it does have an internal (key) lock. I like that feature.
Don't care if it doesn't fire w/o the clip in ... actually that's
not a bad idea! Never had a problem with Ruger trigger pull in their
semi-autos. The trigger pull of the the SS Security Six in DA mode is
a bear, though. My Redhawk is awesome but it's been customized to the
max! I prefer SA targeting, anyway. OK - thanks, I'm convinced.

This little sweetheart has had my eye ever since it appeared on the cover of the April 05 American Rifleman. I'm going to have to get to the gun store soon and get my order in. I think you have excellent taste.

Got one and love it. It is indeed a tack-driver....busted a feral cat Tues at the barn at @35 yds with it. I will have this one for a long time!!!
Those 1/2 and 1/2 grips are just plain sexy!!

Hard to find and when you do find one they jack the price up as everyone wants one. If they shoot half as good as the old Mark's it will be a tack driver.
