max bbl length for 22 rimfire
I know I saw this somewhere, but I looked several times this weekend and could not find a post or a magazine article.
Is there a maximum 'effective' barrel length for 22 rimfire ?
I ask because I thought I saw that 22 inches (or 19, or whatever) was the limit based on the capacity of the propellant. After this 'given' length, there was no improvement and may even be detrimental to performance. When I first read that (where-ever), I thought that with all the different types and loads of 22 rimfire it would not be possible to make a blanket statement for all brands of ammo.
Anybody know where this was discussed, or have any comments ?

depends on what you consider "effective and performance", max. velocity is at about 18" of barrel depending on the load/mgf. this was measured by cutting a long barrel 1" at a time and recording the vel. at each interval. most .22 barrels are longer than this for several reasons (longer sight radius, less muzzel blast/pressure, better balance, ect.. 0 -
Anschutz match rifles have a 27" barrel. MV is not a concern when shooting a match. Accuracy is the only thing that counts. All .22LR match ammo is standard speed. 0
