Need to steam dents out of stocks. Any steamers out there from Home Depot or Lowes?

    Use a damp towel and the wife's steam iron, don't get caught though, they seem to lack the understanding for our needs.[:D]

    Usually an 'Out of Work' Steam Iron can be found in a local Thrift Store for around $5.00....Sure beats the alternative of Sleeping in the Garage or moving FIDO out of His Dog House till things cool down.............

    HER steam iron is out of the question. I need a small comercial steamer. I tried a steam iron many years ago and it did not work well.

    For small dents I use a piece of wet rag or paper towel and a soldering iron. The soldering iron quickly turns the water into steam. I suppose any kind of heat source that would give the water a quick boil would do. As with a lot of other things, the first time try it on a piece of scrap wood, put a few dents in and try to swell them out to develop a technique. Be aware that on a stock any method of steaming out a dent will be defeated by varnish or other finish that seals the wood surface.

    I have done some small buttscoks by stripping the finish with furniture stripper and then running the stock through the dishwasher on the Pots and pans cycle with the drying option on. The hot water and heat dryer takes alot of the hard work out of raising dents. This also works well with some detergent for taking cosmoline out of wood. Before this I used some denin rage from cut up jeans soaked in water and then used an old non steam iron on high to raise dents. Worked very well with a Czech 98/22 stock I had. It takes some time and working with to get your technique down.

    I have a handheld Scunci Steamer from Walmart (yes,I know[B)]) $49.95. It works great. I use it on stocks and to blast the cosmoline off my milsurp guns. The wife even likes to use it around the house.

    I took Rimfires advise and bought the Scunci 900 steamer at WallyWorld this morning. It does work well. Thank you Rimfire!
