Fiberglass stock?

I have a Ruger M-77 short action with the tang safety. I'm
going to rebarrel with a Winchester featherweight contour in
7mm-08, and am considering a fiberglass stock.

Thee are several on the market which seem good:

1. McMillan - Has a Ruger RL style

2. MPI - Has a featherweight style

3. Brown - Classic style

4. Lone Wolf - About 1 pound in weight!

5. Rimrock - Classic, looks nice with good price


Any comments or suggestions on these brands? Anyone actually
use them? Experience anyone?

    Hard to beat the McMillan, for all around quality, and structural strength. It is not the lightest one of the bunch, but in my book, I would rather have a slightly heaver stock, on a rifle like the 7mm-08, than a lighter one. The lighter the stock, the more it will thump you when pulling the trigger, and that always leads to flinch. And we don't want that!
    Try the McMillan, you won't be sorry!

    also look at Bell and Carlson i have one on a winchester model 70 7mm mag and i like the stock.

    don't forget HS Precision as well. Hard to go wrong with most of what you mentioned.

    I use the HS Precision, Mcmillan, and rimrock. All nice, no complaints with them thus far.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    It seems to be boiling down to the McMillan or Rimrock. I
    never considered HS precision. I guess I thought they were
    benchrest oriented?

    I've use all of these and even more. McMillan has reached market maturity and their stance has been to just raise prices. They have brought out new models but the price increases has been excessive. Their value as replacement stocks has actually been decreasing in the eyes of top gunsmiths due to that high pricing. They may be the top of the heap in their own minds but their value to the gunmakers is losing ground.

    Rimrock is a very good alternative along with Lone Wolf. Both companies are run by very talented people with all of the skills and determination required to turn out a top product. As already mentioned and shouldn't be counted out are Bell & Carlson along with HS Precision. Both have a line of Sporter style stocks.

    HS Precision is more field oriented than benchrest. They make Tactical, Varmint/LR, and sporter stocks with the aluminum full length bedding block. A skim bedding and 65 in/lbs of torque and these are great drop in stocks. These are the factory stocks used on the Remington 700 VS, Sendero, VSSF, Sendero SF, PSS models as well as the Winchester Stealth.
