5R MilSpec Barrel Freebore
If my measurements are correct I would have to seat a 168 gr. Matchking at 2.965 OAL to get the bullet near the lands. Has anyone else found this to be correct.

it depends on the reamer that was used to cut the chamber. The length of the throat/leade will dictate seating depth. If you don't have at least 1/2 the neck gripping the bearing surface, you'll want to seat it deeper and hope to find a load that will perform with the "jump" to the lands. In a perfect world, you want the "heel" of the bullet at the shoulder/body junction when seated at the lands.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Just got throught mearsuring my 5R (308) with a stoney point tool & I measured 2.950 to the lands. Know its a fe years later, but hope it helps.. 0 -
You are not alone, I have read a lot of reports of long chamber throats in Remington rifles.
