Winchester 92 in 218 Bee

I have recently acquired a Winchester 92 in 218 Bee serial # 432xxx and would like information about it. The serial # indicates that the receiver was manufactured in 1907 but I understand the 218 Bee did not come out until the 1930s. The barrel appears to be Winchester factory with appropriate proof marks and the 218 Bee stamp is the same I have seen in one reference manual. Bluing and wood are all very good and appear original and not re-done. In addition, it is fitted with a bolt peep sight which is really cool. The rear sight has been removed and replaced with a "plug". Any information is greatly appreciated!

    Hello gea1911...

    Unfortunately, the serial number on your Model 1892 is too high (late) to get a factory letter for, as the surviving Winchester factory records held by the Cody Firearms Museum end at serial number 379,999. What I can tell you, is that your 1892 was originally either a 32 WCF (32-20) or a 25-20 WCF, and that it was rebarreled sometime after 1930. If the bluing on the barrel matches the magazine tube and receiver/frame, it is a very good bet that the gun was refinished when the 218 Bee barrel was installed.

    Simple answer... yes, it does detract form the collectability (value). That said, there are a number of people who like the .218 Bee, and would most likely be willing to part with somew decent $$$ if it is in nice condition.
