Husqvarna question..

i have a smith & wesson model a in a 270 ...have been looking at auctions online to determine the market value , but am having little luck...i see that similar husqvarna models are priced substantially overbook, but then again, no one is buying ! what is realistic worth of these rifles in nra excellent, 98% condition ? book ? under book or is the market really stronger ? thanks

    The only thing I could find in my references that might help you value your rifle is that S & W sold them for a comparably short period of time, circa late 60's, mid 70's. They started selling the Japenese made Howa's after that. Also the "A" was the standard model, other less common versions were carbines and Mannlicher stocked carbines.

    I've had several of the "A" model because I thought they had a good value for a rifle. The two guys that have the excessive prices over on GA are trying to corner the market like the Hunt Brothers tried to do in the silver market a couple of decades ago. The rifles that they are trying to sell have been listed for over 3 years. Ignore them and they'll go away. Keep looking around and you'll find ones in the correct price range. This model is not terrifically collectible by any means for the reason that rufe-snow says, they are the basic model. I buy them for around $250.00 to $350.00 in very good shape but I wouldn't necessarily pay more if they were in better shape. They aren't rare and they aren't collectible but they are good shooting firearms.

    The S&W Huskies with the new style dovetail shaped locking lugs, not the older Mauser style are the smoothest bolt actions ever made. The fit and finish is far superior to anything coming out of todays factories. Ive owned several and they all performed outstandingly well.
    The previous poster is right about some that have been for sale on GB for a long time ,they are very overpriced. I wish I could locate some in the 250--350 range, Sometimes the older Mauser style will go for that but the new Husky type bring in the $450 and up price range.If you have a good one hold onto it as they are hard to beat and are also increasing in value.

    I am a Husqvarna collector and I would say that a S&W model A in .270 in 98% condition is $400 to $500 "retail" depending on which action it has.

    I own a S & W model A and a model B. I paid $375 for the Model A and $325 for the model B. Both were bought at gun shows. The model A is a 300 Win. and the B is a 308 Win. The model B is my favorite rifle and I own over 70. I agree with the comments the others have made. They are a really good buy for the money.
