Weatherby Vanguard vs. Remington 700

Thinking of a new hunting rifle and ran across the Weatherby Vanguard. Anybody have any input on these? They seem like well made firearms, how do they stack up against a Rem. 700?

    If your gonna look at a weatherby look at a Mark V dont look at a vangaurd the craftsmanship is just of poor quality because its a budget rifle. just my input.

    If you can afford a Mark V, then go for it. The Vangard is a Howa manufactured to Weatherby's spec. and most who actually have them seem to feel they will run with the Rem 700 (some even claim they are made like the 700 should be made). They seem to be well made and are now coming with laminated and other good looking stocks, heavy barrels, ect. It's not a $1000 rifle like the Mark V, but then in that class, I think I'd look more at a Kimber, Cooper or Sako.

    I found a NIB .270win. stainless with the synth. stock for 429.00, it has the target paper 1 1/2" three round group, feels and looks really nice. (That is an "out the door" price.)

    I loved my vangard and dont know why i got rid of it.One inch at 200 yards with hand loads in 300 weatherby.you should also look at a savage with the "barell nut" desiegn you can change it into a different caliber quicker than it takes to change your targets

    The vanguard isn't going to be a tack driver by any means, but for that price it would make a nice hunting rifle.[^]
    Personally I still love my 700VS. It was a tack driver out of the box. Since I worked on my trigger, it shoots .65" groups at 100m with factory Winchester 180gr power-points. You would'nt believe me if I told you what it does with hand loads.[;)]

    [8D]--I have 6 Weatherbys and two Vanguard VGX's, the only difference between the Van's and MK 5's is the Super custom (MK 5) and just custom (Van). They ALL drive tacks depending on YOU.Plus-if you take care of the WBY's you'll make money when you (if) sell.[:p][:o)][:D]

    I have a 257 WM in a SS Vanguard and it shoots as good as any 700 factory rifle I ever had. They seem to be very well made, and make a excellant hunting rifle.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    I'd rather have a vangard than a MK V,..but then I look for accuracy. The Howa company makes a quality peice of equipment with tight tolerances.

    The MK V is overpriced IMHO, but is smooth and nice to look at, if that's your thing. Accuracy has been less than I would like from the examples I have worked with.

    That being said, the rem700 is a no-brainer anytime. You can't go wrong. Upgraded parts are highly available, and usually cheaper than custom parts for other manufacturers. The simplicity of the action also lends to assured performance and strength, and the finish rivals any product in it's price range. Not to mention, rem700's can be turned over very quickly on one of the long range or benchrest forums for use as a project action if you need cash. They, just like any other product may need some tweaking out of the box, but I have run into very few unsatisfied rem700 owners.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    [8D]Of course justc is right, I have a VERY accurate Rem 700 BDL (bull) .223 and it's competition ready. I collect Weatherby's MK 5/Vanguard VGX and they're always a pleasure to shoot.[:p][:p][:p][:D]

    I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Weatherby Magnum and it is a tack driver. I was pleasantly surprised with this rifle when I purchased it.
