J.C. Higgins Model 103.16 Looks like a Marlin 81 to me But Would like to varify. A guy I know is looking For a scope mount to fit existing screw pattern, which appears to have never been installed. Looks like it was drilled tapped and plugged at factory.

From what I can see it should be a Marlin 80 0 -

tobefree, this should be easy to sort. Model 80 is a "clip" magazine fed rifle, while model 81 is a tublular fed magazine. My 81 has receiver grooves for a tip off scope mount, and the 80 also does, or at least in the later years. Both were produced from 1941-1971 and I cannot be sure they were not drilled and tapped in earlier years, though I doubt it. Interesting problem! 0 -

I would be inclined to look at Weaver bases, just because those were probably the most commonly available bases in those years. 0 -
