Walther P38/P1 9mm any good?

Anybody have experience with the inexpensive ($229.95) used excellent condition Walther P38/P1 9mm semiauto Post War Walther made in Germany by Walther?

    Yes! I have a few P38s and two P1s! The is no discernible difference between them.

    If you want a LOT of bang(s) for your buck (excuse the pun) pick up a P1. Remember,
    however, they are designed for military use - not a fine target piece by any means.
    They are accurate enough to make consistent torso hits but not tuned to put'em into
    the 10 ring consistently! Since the ammo is cheap and plentiful they are a fun shooter!

    I have a post war P38 made in 61. The main difference between the P38 marked guns and the P1 is usually the P1 guns are old military adn police guns while the P38 where for civilian use. Also the P1 usually has the reinforcing steel stud in the frame while the P38s(mostly early ones like mine) do not. My P38 is actually pretty accurate and once you get used to compensating for the recoil and sights you can hti very well with one. I have a friend with a p89 Ruger and he actually prefers my old Walther to his almost brand new Ruger. The only downside to the gun really is the magazine catch and low capacity. But I figure if you cant hit/kill what you are aiming at with 8 rounds then you shouldnt own a gun anyways. Get one....youll love it. Simple to take apart for cleaning as well.

    I picked up a hand select P-1 through SOG ($270) a month ago. It was from the German Army. At 15 meters, this pistol fired consistent groups of about 1 and a half to two inches with NO fliers. Once I was used to the recoil, I had no trouble firing superb groups. I plan to test it out to 25 meters soon. But this pistol is an incredible shooter!

    Walther did make some and I mean very few all steel P38s post war but they were about 300 dollars more than the alloy framed model. I know of a place that has a few but they are 1000 bucks. I told myself if I ever got the money I would get one...but my bad habit is that I cant save up enough without buying something cheaper I want. I could have 5-6 awesome guns instead of 25 regular ones like I have now.
