Marlin 917M2S Thumbs Up Or Down

Has anyone shot this .17 rifle? If so, what do you think, how does it stack up against the competition? What do you think about the .17 cal. round?

I have a 917M2 (birch stock instead of laminated camo) that I bought to try out the 17 Mach 2 cartridge with here at the store. The accuracy is very good; however, I have had no other firearms in this caliber to compare it with.

As far as the cartridge goes I don't think it will be long lived as it offers nothing that the standard 22 doesn't do as well or better with the exception of velocity and the cost is much greater for the 17 ammo than the 22.

The only "game" shot with this rifle is red squirrel and it performed as expected.

I purchased one of these about 6mths ago to match my other Marlin in 17HMR which I dearly love. With a little trigger work some spring changes & it became a tack driver. Not so with the T900 trigger which is used on the newer models. It is absolutely the worst trigger I have ever encountered on any firearm. It is totally different than the previous model & none of the parts will interchange. I have finally gotten it down to 8oz but the safety no longer works. It has become a target rifle only. Other than the afore mentioned, accuracy is excellent.
