Unbelievable feeding problems!!! 597 LS .17hmr
I picked up a 597LS .17HMR. It was supposed to be the "good one" with laminate stock, bull barrel, metal magazine, etc.
Anyways. The thing will not feed, extract or fire with any kind relibility.
Here are my current problems.
1.) 50% of the time it will extract the round, load a new round however the trigger will be "dead" as in you cannot pull it, it is like it was already pulled... resulting in my having to re-rack the bolt.
2.) 30% of the time it will not even extract the current round or it will stovepipe it.
From what I can tell this "could" be magazine related? Sometimes when there is a stovepipe there is so much friction and pressure against the magazine and the next to feed round that I have to remove the magazine to remove the extracting round.
This is really starting to steam me. 90% of the time it will fail to feed or fire and it is a new gun. I'm ready to send it back to remington... unless there is a simple fix for it?

I made the mistake of buy one of those in .22 when they first came out a few years ago. What a POS, most Rem's are great firearms, what they were thinking when they made that is beyond me...[V] JMO

well,..I would send it back for warranty, then sell it!!
Get a ruger 10/22 and be done with it.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

THE 597'S MAGAZINE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FROM DAY ONE . YOU CAN'T GET ONE TO FEED RELIABLY , AT LEAST NOT LONG . THEN YOU'LL FIND THAT YOU HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS IF YOU DO .

UPDATE:
I fixed it today. It was the guide rail set screws were too tight. Strange considering I never messed with them and bought the gun new. Gun functions great now with 0 failures of any kind.0 -
These Remington 597's are a strange gun. You either get a good one or you don't. Mine is one of the first ones made and it has the plastic clip and I have never had any issues with it. Mine feeds fine, never jams and is extremely accurate. I just hate to hear all the bad experiences people have had with them. I guess I have put around 500-700 rounds through it(those .22 WMR's are expensive) Maybe mine will start acting up after a thousand rounds. Who knows.

We have been in the business for years and Ican honestly say that the 597 is one of the biggest POS ever made. I cant say it any better than that. Crap clips either one plastic or metal, jam problems , stovepipe issues. Stay away from them especially .17hmr or 22 mags. 0 -
Check the clip if it is black sided it is for a 22 mag, silver-sided is for a 17 hmr

I ended up with the Ruger 10/22 and never looked back. In the .17HMR I'd really look at the Marlin line up! Glad to hear you fixed yours;-) 0
