Carbon fiber upper and lowers???
Has anyone gotten the scoop on the new carbon fiber upper and lowers for the AR15 style rifles? Are they capable of holding up to moderate use like your average suburban soldier? Plinking mostly and maybe a tactical range here and there.

Carbon fiber material itself is far, far, far away superior to aluminum in terms of strength, wear, resistance to abuse, etc. Only problem may be getting the right, properly dimensioned upper or lower.

Thanks boeboe. I was looking at one today at a gunshow and was very impressed with the weight. It did look like there was a slight gap between the upper and lower. Is this what you were refering to?

I am not sure who all is making the carbon fiber uppers and lowers now, but the Hesse/Vulcan Arms has had a poor reputation for their metal firearm, I don't know that I would trust them for carbon fiber parts. I have a Vulcan carbon fiber upper, it's okay except the dimensions of the bore that the bolt carrier rides in is larger than GI spec uppers. That could affect accuracy. I had a Pro-Ord Carbon 15 pistol and loved it, but they are not intended to be to USGI dimensions. And there was a lot of poor Pro-Ord guns out there that gave them a bad name. Mine may have been an exception to the rule. I would stick with Bushmaster versions, to buy a new one, they will, no doubt, stand behind their product.
