S&W Mod 27-2 Rear sight replacement

I have a Mod 27-2 in .357 w/ a 5 1/2" Bbl. The rear sight windage is screwed all the way to the left and jammed there.
My problem is that I've never replaced this type of sight, no one in my area has the parts on hand, and I'm having difficulty discerning what parts to order from Numrich.

Numrich has diagrams for the 27-3 models and up, but I don't know what the design changes were. I do know there is a difference between the end of the sight mount being squared (like mine) or rounded.

I guess the basic question is, according to the Numrich diagram, if I order 1 ea, rear sight leaf, rear sight plunger and spring, rear windage nut and screw, and a .126 blade I *should* be good-to go??? Seems to me that the rest of the parts are serviceable, but I'm open to advice.

    THE PARTS YOU LIST SHOULD GET YOU THERE. THE SPRING AND PLUNGER CAN BE REUSED BUT THESE ARE WEEE LITTLE PARTS AND EASY TO LOOSE. YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE A 'STAKING PUNCH' AS THE WIDAGE SCREW IS 'STAKED' TO THE WINDAGE NUT. EXAMINE THEM WITH A MAGNAFING GLASS AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN (L.H. SIDE OF THE SIGHT).

    If the windage screw is jammed to the point that you can't get it to move, how do you propose getting it out to replace it?

    Life may be a lot more simler for you if you just replace the entire sight. Numrich has them and typically so does Midway. As I recall about $36 at Midway ... and I think Numrich is higher.

    Anyway just a sugestion ...

    Call S&W and order the rear sight from them.

    make a split screw driver for the nut and a regular screm driver for the other side and unscrew, you will- A. strip the nut or b. break the screw. either way the parts will come out. much cheaper than replacing the entire sight.

    Spray some PB Blaster in there and let it soak for a few its probably just a little bit of rust. After you leave it soak maybe 5 minutes try it again Mine had this problem and thats what I did I dont think its broke just froze up.

    I'm pretty sure the windage screw is stripped, you turn it and the blade goes nowhere.

    Good advice guys, thanks- I'm going to try to see if it's rust, and then either break it loose or whatever as MW suggested.

    I thought about replacing the whole sight, but I'd like to try replacing the part to "expand" my knowledge base... which usually means I ending spending more money later on replacing the whole thing as a unit.[B)]
