Hopkins & Allen Safety Police 32
I have a Safety Police .32 S&W cal. 5 shot top break small frame model. I fired a couple of rounds in it and it pops open. Does anyone know if this thing is made for cartridges with less of a powder charge or maybe black powder? I'm shooting .32 S&W's (the shorter ones not longs). Could it be that the barrel catches and springs are worn out and if so where can I buy replacements? (Numrich is out of stock on these parts)

Definately a Saturday Night Special..My Suggestion to You is to NOT SHOOT IT.....Its a wonder that You wer'nt injured....This Old Turkey is a Wall Hanger and should not Be fired...A Good Gunsmith could have told You that it was unsafe to Shoot upon inspection....This Old Gun was made in the Early 1900's to the Mid 1930's...Black Powder was the Safest Powder......WAS the safest....If You want to spend Good Money and have it rebuilt...then take it to a Good Gunsmith.....Keeping in Mind that the Money spent on this project would most likely Buy You a New Modern Pistol...................

Thanks for the words of caution Kirk. The piece belonged to a dear departed friend who never indicated there was a problem with it. I still want to restore it if it needs fixed, if for nothing else to shoot blanks on July 4th. Does anyone know if it infact was it made for black powder? Does anyone know of a source for replacement parts? 0 -
all hopkins & allen revolvers top break and solid frame were manufactured for black powder cartridge pressures. date of manufacture of the safety police was about 1905 to 1915. hopkins & allen was bought out by marlin for WWI war production.
if numrich does have the parts go to the public forum on their web site and ask about other parts supplies. there are people there who have information on other suppliers.
